William was wounded in the Battle of the Somme, France 15th Sept 1916. Gunshot wound in left thigh, Bayonet in left foot. Service number: 16279, Reg: Coldstream Guards. Enlisted at Penrith on the 31st May 1915. Discharged 20th April 1917, no longer physically fir for war service after serving 1 year 325 days.
Age 21, Height 6' 0 half ", Complexion: Pale, Eyes: Hazel, Hair: Dark Brown. Scar over left eyebrow.

William married Mary Isobel Brockbank, daughter of Joseph Brockbank and Alice Snowden, about 1928. (Mary Isobel Brockbank was born Jun Qua 1907 in West Derby, Lancashire, England and died in 1970 in Australia.)
